Every April, communities around the world come together to recognize Parkinson’s Awareness Month—a time dedicated to education, support, and action for those living with Parkinson’s disease. At Cornerstone Clubs, this mission is especially meaningful as we work to empower individuals through movement, connection, and specialized fitness programming.
What is Parkinson’s Awareness Month?
Parkinson’s Awareness Month shines a spotlight on a neurological condition affecting more than 10 million people worldwide. Throughout April, organizations, healthcare providers, and fitness communities focus on:
- Increasing understanding of Parkinson’s symptoms and progression
- Supporting individuals and caregivers
- Promoting research and better treatment options
Parkinson’s is a progressive disorder that impacts movement—causing symptoms like tremors, stiffness, slowed movement, and balance challenges—as well as non-motor symptoms such as sleep issues, fatigue, and mood changes.
Awareness is the first step toward better care, earlier diagnosis, and improved quality of life.
Why Movement Matters
One of the most powerful tools in managing Parkinson’s is exercise.
Research consistently shows that regular physical activity can help improve mobility, balance, strength, and overall quality of life. In fact, exercise is often described as a critical part of managing symptoms alongside medical care.
That’s why initiatives like Moving Day and specialized fitness programs are so important.
